Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Work collaboratively with Senior Clinical Director(s) in the planning and management of respiratory care services in the emergency department. The supervisor has responsibility for the day to day operations of the respiratory care services and facilitates the linkage between the clinical and management aspects of the emergency department. Supervise, direct and evaluate the skills and work performance of all respiratory acre personnel in the emergency department of a medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leadership/Clinical Practice
a. Works collaboratively with Senior Clinical Director(s) in the planning, organization, and direction of the respiratory care services in the Emergency Department.
b. Plans, manages, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work performance of supervised staff on a day to day basis.
c. Acts as Role Model, Clinical Expert and Resource to all members of the healthcare team.
d. Participates in the evaluation, selection and interview process of new personnel in conjunction with the Director(s) of Respiratory Care and Emergency Department.
e. Facilitates utilization of 'Evidence Based Care' (Clinical Pathways) and standardized approved criteria to improve coordination and level of care.
f. Support, interpret and enforce CCHMC policy and procedure as well as Emergency department and respiratory care policies.
g. Provides direct patient care that reflects current professional practice.
h. Maintains thorough knowledge of Respiratory Care Ohio Revised Code.
i. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals, ensure that clinical practice is at standards set by CCHMC respiratory care division and Ohio revised code.

d. Designs new processes, collects and measures data, reviews and reports performance over time. Improves and redesigns processes based on the evaluation, reassesses continuously.

a. Utilize constructive approaches to problem solving and conflict resolution.
b. Assist in establishing and maintaining departments customer service standards.
c. Participate in identifying improvements in response to customer needs.
d. Facilitates involvement of patients/families (shared care) in decisions and goal setting for care outcomes.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

 
Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS: Above average verbal, written and interpersonal communication. Ability to relate to a diverse age and demographic background. Demonstrate leadership ability, enthusiasm, diplomacy, tact and the ability to make independent judgements and decisions. Professional and exceptional technical abilities with the ability to teach and access respiratory care practice. Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks at once to meet needs of families, patients, and healthcare team members.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. Graduate of an AMA approved respiratory care program. Registered Respiratory Therapist and licensed in the State of Ohio as a Professional Respiratory Therapist. Demonstrated strong leadership and educational skills. 5 years experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
